The Way We were

Lex sums it up quite nicely……

“In Nero’s time, Rome had to settle for a soloist: In these more modern times, we have assembled 535 fiddlers as the capital burns.

We let them play these little games for too long. Rewarded the better players with partisan loyalty, chairmanships and presitige! Made them vie and grapple amongst themselves for pork barrell primacy, always looking for the next personal hand out, never demanding any kind of stewardship.”

But where are we now?  What has happened to the United States of my childhood (I am 56)?  What happened to the United States, beacon of liberty?

They say “As goes California, so goes the country”  I so wish that wasn’t true.  California state government has been rife with socialists and communists (most running as democrats) for decades.  There are fewer now than there were simply due to term limits but they are still there.  And the Republican party will NEVER see a majority role in that state at least for the rest of my lifetime.

And from California comes Pelosi, Boxer, Waxman…..and they join the other socialists already in Congress to have the majority in both houses of Congress and very nearly the Supreme Court.

Enter the Great One, a marxist, to fill the Executive Branch………As goes California.

Were Gunna Change It and rearrange it…..

The change?……….. to socialism.

Used to be that prior to each election someone would say something like”the Republic will survive”

if Obama is elected, I have serious doubts about the survivability of the Republic.  Ithink we are witnessing the culmination of a quiet revolution being waged to turn us into a socialist society, and most of us aren’t even paying attention.

This is it folks, the fork in the road.  One leads left, one leads right.  Which are you going to choose?

“Welcome to the Brave New World” ?

Held Hostage

So His O-Liness says “my message too Congress is: get this done”…..you are part of Congress asshole.

Now, to the subject:

Today the House failed to pass the “bailout” bill.  I have heard alot today that it isn’t a bailout, that we, the public, just don’t understand what the bill does.  That may be true, but if it is, nobody is telling us what it REALLY is..

I have also heard that if something isn’t done fast, that we are in serious trouble.  If that is the case, my opinion is that once the bill is passed that anyone and everyone involved with getting us to this point be brought to trial for malfeasance at the very least. The private sector, as far as I can see, didn’t cause this, this is Freddy and fanny and congressional members who, for their own political and financial benefit, chose to do nothing when warned about the looming problems.

Regardless of the vote, regardless of the bill, the citizens of this country have suffered a massive loss at the expense of a few and the people who made this happen need to be held accountable.

Wet Farts

You now, the kind that everyone knows about, that you can’t hide from and that make you have to change your shorts……

“Keep in mind House Democrats and Senate Democrats and me and the leadership are all pretty burned up about this thing,” Obama said at a news conference after the TV interviews. “This wasn’t happening on our watch. We weren’t preventing some of the regulatory reforms that might have prevented us from getting here.”

“Obama said jobs, economic growth, retirement accounts, small businesses and financial markets will all be at risk without a bailout plan. “There are no good options at this point. There are bad options and worse options. Sounds familiar from our discussions of Iraq,” Obama said.”

Well, well, well,  wasn’t happening on our watch senator?  Is that what Hillary meant by “willing suspension of disbelief”?

Who the hell do you think you are trying to fool you idiot, all roads point to you, the committee chairmen and your party. You don’t even have the brains to know when not to lie, to just keep your mouth shut.  Instead you expect us to believe this verbal flatulance?

WHO’S WATCH WAS IT SENATOR? Who had oversight responsibilities? Who stalled reforms designed to prevent this? Or were you just not “present”? The republicans are clean on this one your o-liness regardless what kind of crap you smear on it.

And what about this BS……”Sounds familiar from our discussions of Iraq”.  hey BUD, in case you hadn’t noticed, we had a good option that YOU VOTED AGAINST and WE ARE WINNING because of it, no thanks to you.

A walking, talking rectal cranial inversion, he

Obama 1, McCain?

So what’s wrong with this  picture?

After the failed first attempt at a soltion to our current financial crisis Obama says:

“It’s’important not to inject presidential politics into this,” Obama said. “My preference is to use the phone … in a way that’s not a photo op because I think that sometimes prevents things from getting done.”

That’s pretty noble….country first and all that….country above party, country above politics…..above the frey and all that…..I can do this without wasting valuable campaign time by using the phone….

Then he takes the “high road”, no pointing fingers here…..:

“Obviously it’s pretty frustrating for Democrats having seen the mismanagement that’s been taking place over the last several years to feel like we’ve got to step in and get something done,” he told CBS. “But that’s how I think many of us feel, that we can’t worry about how we got here. Now we’ve got to take some serious steps.”

Never mind that the democrats are knee deep into the corruption that brought this about, never mind that both commitee chairmen with oversight over this debacle are democrats, never mind that Obama got $105,000 from fanny or Freddy….It’s Bush’s fault and  but they’ll fix it.

It’s YOUR mismanagement at cause this problem you crooked shit and the thing that just amazes me is that you find it so easy to lie about it.

Know what scares me about this………alot of people will believe this shit….and they vote…

So far, no rebuttal from McCain or the Repubs…….is Big mac too intertested in working across the isle, or saving his retirement?….Say someth’in John!

Talk about missing the boat.

D.R.I.P.

Barney Frank and Chris Dodd belong in jail.

This whole financial mess just confirms to me that re-electing incumbent politicians is a mistake.

The power held by the the chairmen of the Congressional committees charged with oversight of Fanny and Freedy allowed them to be able to hire the crooks who mismanaged those two companies,  sweep the slush fund under the rug and. and prevent remedies designed to fix the problems.

This problems falls squarely on the democrats and the only way that they can hide that fact is to ask for more oversight, which gives them more ways to cover their asses.

It’s time to vote them out and keep them out. Break the power of the politicians and give it back to the people!

TERM LIMITS NOW…..

Where do we get such men……..

XFORMED writes at The Wide Awakes and chaotic synaptic activity a wonderful article on the men of PT-109 and of her skipper,  John F. Kennedy.

One still wonders where we get such men…..

I have been interested in the Pacific Theater of WW2 since I was a kid (born 10 yrs after Pearl Harbor)
Ever since I read PT-109 as a kid I have been amazed at what this relatively physically frail man accomplished.

Though some in the past few years have tried to diminish what he did, the fact is that he did what he did and most of his men survived.

But, as a historical side note (not at all to diminish the bravery of Kennedy and his crew) is the story of Lt Hugh Barr Miller Jr. who survived (severly injured) the sinking of his ship, the USS Strong, drifting ashore on the island of Arundel, between Kolobangara and New Georgia after 4 days adrift with 6 enlisted men.

Ten days after they landed he suffered a hemorrhage and ordered the remaining 3 crewmembers to save themselves.  He divided his belonging and much of his remaining clothing amonst the remaining three.

But he survived. Scavenging around the enemy held island he found a dead Japanese soldier and removed his weapon and some grenades from the lifeless body.

At one point he used those very grenades to kill all of a 5 man Japanese patrol who was looking for whomever stripped the dead Japanese body. Supplied by weapons from this engagement the deaths of another 25 japanese soldiers are attributed to him.

Miller was rescued by Maj. Goodwin Luck flying a J2F Duck who volunteered for SAR operartions in the Rendova area
.
But for me the really interesting part is this:

Miller’s ship was sunk July 4, 1943.
Miller landed ashore on July 8, 1943
Miller was rescued August 16, 1943
PT-109 was sunk August 2, 1943
PT-109 crew rescued August 9, 1943

There were 7 days when these two men were seperated by a strait of only approximately 13 miles!

Miller was rescued August 16, 1943 after 43 days and 40 lbs. and later recommended for the Navy Cross.

Where indeed.
